Personal Dynamic Media response
I found this article very fascinating and inspiring. To read the about the thought process of some of the most influential technological minds of our time, and to see how the innovations of the 1960's and 70's still effect our world today was very interesting. The whole idea of the Dynabook was groundbreaking, and to see how commonplace notebook computers are today is astonishing. Kay and Goldberg had it right when they predicted the dynabook to be a flexible and dynamic medium, which would create endless possibilities for its users. They also envisioned a computer to be used by everyone. In today's world, the oldest to the youngest of our citizens use computers for a multitude of applications. The range of uses a dynabook carries in modern society is amazing, as well as the ability for the dynabook to be so personalized by its users. Every hobby, job, passion, and social need can be met by using a personal computer, not to mention the filing and record keeping capabilites. The world we live in will be forever linked to dynabooks as well as dependent.

AG,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your post on Personal Dynamic Media. I also thought that this article was pretty amazing considering that it was written in the 1970s. People were ahead of their time and like you, I think it's pretty amazing to see their innovations being such a large part of today's world. Reading an article like this makes me think about our future going forward and what inventions and blueprints will be a primitive part of our society 40 years down the road. I agree with you when you write, " Every hobby, job, passion, and social need can be met by using a personal computer, not to mention the filing and record keeping capabilities." The predicted a more efficient way to do business in many different fields and they were surely correct as society today depends on their technology.
Hello AG,
ReplyDeleteI like how it told about Kay and Goldberg's story of the Dynabook. I just find it crazy to think that somebody could hit dead on the head with this idea that came almost 30 years later. These genius' were obviously way ahead of their time! The fact that Kay and Goldberg kind of predicted that the computer would even be used by children someday is fascinating also. Most would've thought then that the idea of this "Dynabook" would definitely be too much for children to be using. Now days everybody uses computers. I thoroughly enjoyed your post!!
